Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) is part of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Airport TETRA network. With around 90 million passenger in a year, Beijing is among the busiest airports in the world.
The CAAC TETRA network in Beijing includes TETRA switch and 6 base stations, interfaces to PABX telephone system, recording system and 10 000 TETRA handportable radios.
Network in Beijing airport is part of a wider programme to build a nationwide communication system covering all the major airports across China.
So far, Airbus Defence and Space has installed TETRA switches in four key airports, including Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu, in addition to Beijing. The four systems are linked to form a nationwide network, enabling subscribers to roam and communicate between different airports.
