Hamburger_Hochbahn.jpgElancourt, 28 November 2017 – Airbus has started modernising the radio communications network of the German metro operator Hamburger Hochbahn AG.

By the end of 2020, Airbus will have upgraded the customer’s Professional Mobile Radio infrastructure and migrated the complete Tetrapol system to the latest IP (Internet Protocol) version. The complete agreement encompasses the system’s technical upgrade, the delivery of third generation radio modules, devices and a maintenance service.

Furthermore, Hamburger Hochbahn AG has renewed the existing service contract, which will be in force until 2020. From 2020 onwards, Airbus will support the company until 2025.

“Airbus will contribute to achieving this aim with state-of-the-art radio communications technology. In particular, our tailored service will help to make sure that the customer can plan its business more easily,” says Markus Kolland, Head of Sales & Program Delivery for Europe and Africa of Secure Land Communications at Airbus. Thanks to the current upgrade, the Hamburger Hochbahn’s communications system will be even sturdier and more user-friendly in the years to come, he points out.

Hamburger Hochbahn AG is one of the most important public transport operators in the second largest city of Germany. Around 5,000 employees work for the corporation and its subsidiaries. The staff coordinate complex operations with the help of the Airbus Tetrapol radio network. It currently consists of seven Tetrapol base stations and one switching facility. Moreover, in the underground train system, three IP base stations and a redundant second-generation main switch are an integral part of the radio system. All in all, Hamburger Hochbahn AG operates a network of four metro and 111 bus lines of 1,000 kilometres.
