Airbus modernises the Tetra network of Stadtwerke München

Published: 15 November, 2018

Elancourt, 15 November 2018 – By the end of 2018, Airbus will have embarked on the modernisation of Stadtwerke München`s (SWM) Tetra communication network using the latest Tetra technology. mvg-wiesn-c-bf-theresienwiese

Soon, all the components of the energy provider’s secure communication system will be running on Internet Protocol (IP). At the same time, Airbus will replace the core system with the new Taira Tetra server. Thanks to the Taira intermediate server, the network will be even more geo-redundant and reliable, making data transmission more secure.

The modernisation work can be done without major interruptions to the ongoing operation of the Tetra network, and is to be conducted in separate migration phases. SWM will be able in the future, for example, to integrate even more participants and system components in the communication system. Airbus will adapt the network according to SWM's requirements.

"SWM has opted for a system upgrade which allows it to determine for itself the future of its secure communications. We are providing the company with our fullest support, so that SWM can flexibly expand its network and subsequently also implement broadband technology," says Markus Kolland, Head of Sales of Northern, Central and Eastern Europe for Secure Land Communications at Airbus.

SWM is the largest public company in Europe, providing the population in the Munich region with electricity, renewable energies, water, telecommunications, swimming pools and local public transport. The employees are able to optimise their operational procedures using the Tetra radio communication network from Airbus. Furthermore, SWM and Airbus have since 2012 made available encrypted communication technology to the annual "Munich Security Conference". As a result, the international event can be better coordinated.
